I have never heard of this before, but I saw one not too long ago. Looks pretty fancy for an Isuzu. I'd drive it.

It's a pretty good looking truck, nothing wrong with that. I'm not even going to take a look at the interior, as I can already foresee how terrible it's going to look.

They were good trucks. Not quite the off-road tank that the Trooper was, but certainly cool.

I actually got yelled at in 6th grade on a field trip over one of these. I passed one in a parking lot, and it looked weird (I had never seen one before), so I looked through the closed window. Some teacher from another school started yelling at me, and proceeded to read me the riot act about breaking into people's cars or some such.

Like I actually want to find one for sale now. They were only made for 3 years apparently.

230-ish horsepower from a 3.5L V6 in 2001, not bad.

In the 4 months leading up to my purchase, I drove nearly every sub $8000 car (at dealers, I didn't bug private sellers) I could find. I don't think I drove a first gen Durango 5.9, though.

Not really surprising you hadn't heard of it before, the Axiom was almost Isuzu's last gasp in North America and they sold maybe 12 of them (8 of which were to moms of Isuzu Motors employees). As I recall, the design was quite controversial when it came out and in the pre-B9 Tribeca days was naively called ugly by a number of publications.

I always kind of liked them though, to me the Axiom and the VehiCross showed that Isuzu still had good people working for them that were really trying their hardest to turn out interesting products.

I wouldn't dare pose. It's a $7000 car. Anyways, it would be for my dad, so we'd take his car. The manager down there knows us, since we always take my grandpa's car in for service there, and she knows my dad had his eye on a CTS but wanted more space.

To be quite honest, I cannot see my dad springing for a $75k SUV. SUVs are not his style, and even if he got it in his head that he could afford such a car, I don't think he would like the depreciation hit it would take. This is a guy that puts on 30k miles a year, and tends to buy off lease. Still, like I said, the manager will probably be happy to let us see the car, because even if she doesn't sell him that, she might end up selling him an off lease Acadia Denali (they damn near did, but I put the kibosh on that).

He was looking at the pre-facelift before he bought the Flex. They are nice cars, but the Flex was much bigger inside. Plus it looks cooler, as a matter of personal preference. The decision we are going through now is whether or not he needs one more "family truckster" (SUV/crossover), or whether he can go back to sporty sedans. He's trying to find something that is a combination, but he's leaning more towards the truckster, because I got a sedan as opposed to, say, an Isuzu Trooper.

If it seems like we look at cars a lot, he buys a new car every two years or so. Not because he's a current-model snob (mostly off-lease cars, as I said), but because of the miles he puts on. That trend is a huge pain in the wallet, but it does mean he's almost always in the market for a car, which is fun.

Hey, my parents got by using a single-cab Silverado with a bench-seat for the first few years of my life. 3-people, 3-seats. No need for a 7-seat truck.

Then again, they did "upgrade" to a '99 Tahoe when the Silverado was stolen.
